I’ve been very lucky this year in that I’ve felt the ripple of generosity and kindness in both my professional and personal life.
Following a rather tumultuous 2016, I recognised the need to take affirmative action. Realising that I needed a completely unbiased and honest perspective, I turned to a mentor who had those attributes. He was honest and very forthright which was such a relief, even if I heard things I didn’t really want to admit. However, he was never derogatory and always encouraging in the new steps I knew had to be taken. Michael Virardi’s mentoring was invaluable and I’m ever grateful to him.
His ability to make me focus (not easy as an Aquarian entrepreneur) brought new people and confidence. I finally found an assistant and right-hand person who is fabulous in her generosity of spirit. Laura embraced my vision, added her own superb marketing ideas and is always keen to share her knowledge. That shows the most incredible generosity. How many times do people actually freely share their shortcuts and knowledge in the business world? I can confirm that it’s rare. Her remuneration is nowhere near what it should be, but we are on the road together, and we’ll reach the pinnacle like that. Her ethics and morals are to be admired, and through our close collaboration, I see the ripples of her generosity permeating all her work. I wish there were more with such business ethics.
I was absolutely flabbergasted last week when a friend sent an air ticket and said: “I know you love travelling and exploring – here’s a ticket for you.” No friend (or husband) has ever done such a kindness and I cannot describe the thoughts and emotions which go with such a gift. That warm and fuzzy feeling I had, made me more patient, relaxed and generous in spirit – in small, but hopefully meaningful ways to the recipients.
I am determined to continue these new ripples which I’ve been blessed with to others and would like to encourage you to do this too. Something as simple as a smile, opening a door, helping an elderly person across the street, giving someone a bottle of water or buying them an ice-cream will have a huge impact. If we all do it in a small way, the ripple can become a wave.
Thank you to everyone who has been so good to me – from small to large actions. I continue to grow and learn to be a better person.
Warmest wishes to everyone
